Gnome 2.6 Beta 1

Ok, so I gave in (the wait was killing me) and upgraded to Gnome 2.6 beta 1 using ebuilds and a patch of my own devising (which I have submitted to Matt of bmg) for gtk+-2.3.6 which fixes some issues that will be fixed in 2.3.7 (mostly FileChooser stuff). And except for an < %popup(20040318-quicklounge-wrong.png|192|41|issue)%> with the Quick Lounge applet, it works! Just in case there was any doubt, I really really like it. It’s really polished and looks great. Ok, I need to get to bed. It’s 1:00 AM and I’m starting to doze off at the keyboard…

New Design

As you can see, there’s a new design in place. It’s based off of a design I found at called subdued. I like it, ajgenius thinks is alright, harshy thinks it’s “tite”, so I’m gonna keep it. I still have to get the archive page and a couple others to use this theme, but it’ll come. Any suggestions? Post ‘em to the comments.

Weekend fun

So, my fiancé is in town this weekend and it’s a blast. We’ve been looking at and working on wedding things (guest lists, etc.) and today we’re going out to enroll in the bridal gift registry, figure out pictures for the engagement (by the way, for those that don’t know, I’m engaged!), and a couple other things. It’s tiring, but fun. Anyway, it’s off to go do wedding preparations.

API Freeze (finally)

After pushing back API freeze twice (or was it three times…), we finally have a frozen API. This is great and I feel a sense of accomplishment with this release. Murray has done a great job with this release and helped me through my mistakes with some of the new API, but I guess he’s glad I helped. I’m kind of disappointed we couldn’t get the STL API working for Gtk::Toolbar, but I think the new API is better (I hope that’s not a sin to say that).

The other huge thing we accomplished was the move to libsigc++2. The syntax is cleaner and easier to use.

Vfsmm turned out pretty spiffy as well. The Volume, Drive, and VolumeMonitor idea is awesome and I can’t wait to see what the developers have in store for GNOME 2.6.

First Post!

So, it’s not as cool as it is on slashdot, but hey, it’s still the first post on my blog. As you can see, I have a ton of work to do, but eventually this will be my home on the internet.
