well, checking said cmments i really don't understand bryan's problem with this... this is the first release of coaster so it IS buggy and bryan most likly already KNOWS about most of the bugs that ppl obviously come aross after testing coaster for like 10 minutes. so i really don't see the need for spamming bugzilla yet, many things will get fixed over the next few weeks/month and after that reporting bugs makes sense. i like coaster a lot, i just think that with alpha (or what dir he call it, omega?) software, it's best to communicate over forums/mailing lists for a while before bugzilla makes sense. my $0.02

Why is it that people think that they can just put bug reports anywhere they want? Well, sometimes a bug isn't easily reproducible, sometimes bugzillas require registration and answering annoying questions that might be baffling to the bug reporter. Sometimes its hard to track down the bugzilla in the first place and the maintainer doesn't put up a public email address. If you're getting bug reports in odd places, that probably means that even more bug reports are simply not being filed at all because of lazier people.

anon/ffub : bryan is a little too harsh on this one, tact anyone? But I am thinking that the real point is that the bug report was from someone who should know better. If it was from someone who was new to the whole Open Source development thing, has never heard of bugzilla, and didn't understand what that was about, maybe.. but I tend to be a little non-understanding myself from people who are a long standing part of the community, post bug reports all the time, and do give feedback often. I know myself I always look for a bug reporting system to post a bug before I look for alternative measures. And in that sort of a situation, I e-mail the maintainer if at all possible, or look for someone on IRC. Posting to a public comments on a general application site is going to be my last resort because.. How can I possibly know if the right people will ever even see it? Bad form.

I echo the sentiment of the last guy. if people are filing bugs in the wrong place then they don't understand where to file bugs, get over your ego and stop having a go because these are the people that _bother_ to give you feedback. Hardly seems worth it if you ask me.
